History & Construction -
This is a 5 seater runabout, made of foam sandwich, plywood and GRP. Renowned multihull designer Derick Reynolds had the boat made in the UK in 2007. It is 6.9m LOA and 6.1m (20ft) LOD. The Beam is 2.49m (8') and is trailerable. (Trailer is not included with this boat but a new trailer can be obtained via Quay Boats if required.)
The twin hulls have chines and are very narrow, making the vessel cut through the water, giving an extremely smooth ride. The deck is self-draining, with foot wells for the helmsman and forward passenger. The deck extends aft for ease of access in a marina, also enabling wheelchair access from the dockside.
The boat's draft is 0.28m and the air draft is 1.2m. There are two automatic bilge pumps, one in the rear of each hull. The topsides and deck are painted with two-part polyurethane paint and the underwater is copper coated with Copperbot (so it can be left afloat without needing antifouling each year). The boat has a chart plotter and a depth finder.
The engines are a pair of Honda four stroke 50hp petrol, new in 2007 with only 97 hours since fitted. The top speed is 33.2 knots with 15" single propellers. There are 2 plastic tanks for Petrol, each holding 60L. There are two batteries 105 amphr (2007), charged by the engines alternators, power trim and tilt and 12v navigation lights with traditional bulbs.
There are five seats fitted and the boat is RCD coded for 5 persons Cat C. There are four separate compartments to the hulls which helps make the boat safe. Also any water taken on deck goes easily off the stern. There are storage lockers in each hull and a stainless steel boarding ladder. The boat is complete with fenders, ropes and lines, and an anchor and chain. The windscreen is sectional, there are handrails, cleats and a rear guard rail.
Comments - - - An exciting boat to own, unique and purposeful. Easy to maintain. A steady platform for working from, or if you do not like the rolling motion you get on monohulls (good for disabled persons too.) Ideal for coastal passages, river exploration, plus a wide range of specialist uses including wildlife and marine photography, inter-island ferry, port and harbour workboat with excellent space for tools and machinery carrying on deck. Adaptable to suit your own requirements.
The designer has many years of experience of power catamaran work, has designed Class 3 Racing Catamarans, and this boat is the 5th generation hull. The twin engines give manoeuvrability and the narrow waterline enables to boat to cut through the waves and gives a stable "soft" ride, without slamming.
