A new Plymouth Pilot hull (2010) with new engine (2011) a Beta 43 which has only done sea trials, 5 hours use. "Voetsek" is set up as a passenger ferry and licenced for Category 5, up to 20 miles offshore, subject to local licencing. Equipped with all the safety and navigation equipment required for a modern workboat.
The hull is a genuine Plymouth Pilot, 24' long, fitted out in Polruan, Cornwall and launched in 2011 as an open boat with bench seating and central console. The Engine is housed aft of the console with an insulated engine cover protruding above the deck which doubles as the helmsman's seat. The Beta is a four cylinder 43hp diesel inboard with single shaft and propellor running off two 61L plastic fuel tanks giving a top speed of 7 knots.
The deck mouldings have steps on port and starboard midships and hand rails to facilitate easy passenger pickup and departure. The seating is combined with buoyancy tanks. There are lockers forward and aft to store the safety equipment, including 13 inflatable lifejackets, a container of flares, the SolasB First aid Kit, two manual dry powder fire extinguishers and and emergency tiller. Situated around the guard rails are the Radar reflector, the KIM safety ladder, a horseshoe buoy with light and a horseshoe buoy with a drogue.
The navigation equipment consists of a traditional compass, a Garmin chartplotter combined with sounder and a Navman 7200 DSC VHF. There are two electric bilge pumps, one with alarm in the engine area and one in the main bilge, plus a manual bilge pump on the the rear bulkhead that goes to both bilges.
Two 110 amphr batteries (2011) run the engine start and the electrical systems. There is a compass light, navigation lights, and a search light which plugs into an external socket. The boat comes complete with a Bruce anchor on chain and 30m line plus a spare Bruce anchor.
